Mui Ne also received large groups of Russian tourists for the second year in a row. Many resorts are booked full through March and April. Prices for seafood was up 30% over the holidays due to demand.

According to Vietnam Net Bridge, Foreign tourist figures in Binh Thuan were 150,000 people and over 1.6 million Vietnamese tourists for the entire year of 2005. The province now has 3,000 hotel rooms to accommodate them. Tourism in Binh Thuan had a growth of 30 percent overall last year, earning revenue of $30 million.

On a sad note, the Department of Traffic Police, Road and Railway in Ha Noi reported that during the first four days of the lunar new year, a total of 174 people died and 366 were injured in more than 274 traffic accidents across Vietnam. The causes of these accidents were speeding, drunk driving and overloading. Binh Thuan Province was the region recording the most lethal accidents, with five deaths in two days. While traffic accidents in Mui Ne are not common, lethal accidents in Phan Thiet City, and the road leading to Mui Ne may be frequent.

20.01.06 Swiss couple Emil and Liliana Schmid, owners of three Guinness achievements, spent New Years in Mui Ne after traveling for nearly 21 years by car. Emil and Liliana left Montreal on October 16, 1984. They took six years in North America, more than three years in South America, three and a half years to travel across Europe, three and a half years in Africa, almost a year in Australia and three years in Asia. The couple has traveled about 600,000 kilometers, over 7,760 days. The couple is now in Hanoi, and still traveling in the same vehicle.

Tet in Mui Ne - Phan Thiet

19.01.06 In Western Countries like the USA, the "holiday season" is over after January 1. Not so in Vietnam. Here the holiday season is extended for another month or more as families prepare for Tet, the lunar new year. Contrary to popular misunderstanding, Tet is not a single-day affair. Traditionally an entire month-long festival is celebrated from the 15th day of the twelfth month to the 15th day of the first month, but the first 3 days of the new year are the most important.
